The Top Five Businesses That Truly Benefit from Videoconferencing
By Tim Gorman

Videoconferencing is an area of communication that is rapidly gaining popularity, as more industries recognize the advantages videoconferencing offers them. Videoconferencing can benefit an enormous range of businesses, including education institutions at all levels, architecture firms, the medical profession, pharmaceutical companies, finance business such as banks, brokerage firms, insurance companies, law firms, hotel chains - and the list goes on.

The main purpose of videoconferencing is to hold meetings between people in different locations. The purpose of the meeting can be whatever you choose - conduct an interview, hold a seminar, give a lecture, work together to solve a problem. It's only limited by your imagination. It can also be used by those who work from home and telecommute. Videoconferencing makes an enormous difference to the cost of bringing people together, because it eliminates the need for expensive travel costs. Not only that, there's no longer a need to waste many precious hours traveling to a meeting or conference - you can just switch on your web cam and you're there. This makes it possible to hold more frequent meetings and benefit from the sharing of knowledge. Globalization is a lot more achievable with the use of videoconferencing, as people in diverse parts of the world can all join in with minimum inconvenience. Basically, videoconferencing makes the world highly accessible.

Videoconferencing can be very beneficial in an education campus. For example, take a university campus that is stretched over a number of different locations, or perhaps partners with other institutions internationally. Videoconferencing makes it much simpler for the various administrators or lecturers to stay in touch and share information, and it can also be used a learning tool by the students. Distance learning can be very beneficial, as the student can both see and hear the information in real time. There are also opportunities for the student to actively participate in the conference, which helps them to get more from the session. Lots of visual aids such as technical drawings, PowerPoint presentations and so on can be used to enhance learning opportunities.

Businesses, too, can benefit enormously from videoconferencing if they have multiple offices in diverse locations. Removing the need to travel to head office for meetings or visit a branch for training purposes cuts down both the time and money involved in travel. The business can have face-to-face training sessions, check in with remote employees and business partners, discuss business issues with customers, launch new products, hold media briefings, conduct focus group research, and hold regular staff meetings, just to name a few ideas, without anyone needing to leave their own office or home. Many businesses are now reporting a huge boost in productivity, more frequent and stronger communication with customers and clients, and a marked decrease in travel expenses.

Another big advantage to business is that videoconferencing allows meetings to take place with very little notice or preparation. There's no longer a need to schedule tings months in advance to allow time for travel plans to be put in place. Now that VOIP (voice over internet protocols) are becoming more accessible, videoconferencing can involve minimum cost and maximum benefit to business.
